DAY ONE - EKLUTNA:
Upon arrival in Anchorage, (by 12 PM noon) meet your resident guide and traveling companions. (If you need a pre-tour hotel night, we can help you arrange a hotel and transfers to your hotel from the airport. We will provide tour pick-up at your hotel.) Begin your Alaska vacation via private luxury transport service, with pick-up and then travel to the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Here, native games, sports, song & dance are performed. Representatives share their culture and ideas. Traveling north through the Matanuska Valley, visit the village of Eklutna, featuring the Russian Orthodox influence on native culture and view native spirit houses, sharing in the local traditions. This evening, dine with new friends and overnite in Wasilla in very comfortable lodging.
DAY TWO - PALMER:
This morning begin your day with views of cascading rivers, cliffs covered in green and views of wild flowers galore. Hatcher's Pass offers bird's eye views of the Matanuska Valley! Be sure to wear good shoes, as you will have an opportunity to try your hand at gold panning in a real Alaska stream. This is not salted! This is an area just below the Independence gold mine, that harbors real nuggets! Lunch is offered at the Motherlode, a local favorite. This afternoon, our Alaskan tour will add the icing on your cake! Board an airboat ride to Lake George, the base of Knik Glacier. Lake George, an ice dammed lake was once responsible for floods of cataclysmic proportions. Knik Glacier, 28 miles long, 6 miles wide, and over 1000 feet thick, is one of Alaska's grandest natural attractions. Knik Glacier, born in the Pleistocene Glaciation period (the beginning of the Ice Age) 600,000 years ago, covered the Anchorage bowl and the entire Cook Inlet. Knik Glacier found it's way to Hollywood and was featured in such movies as Star Trek V, Running Free, and numerous music videos and commercials. While it remains active, motion imperceptible to the naked eye, this glacier is in a constant state of change. Dinner this evening is group choice. Overnight at your same accommodations. (B)
DAY THREE - TALKEETNA:
Denali Flightseeing & Glacier Landing: Among the most breath taking tours you will ever experience, this flight features glaciers, rugged mountains and wildlife viewing. As ice covered spires reach to the clouds, glaciers plummet over the cliffs and huge caverns tell secrets of the ice age, you will be awe-struck, as the plane lands on a glacier and you step out to taste the pristine wilderness you came to Alaska to enjoy. $275.00 pp
2-Hour River Safari Adventure: Travel 10 miles of river in a covered jetboat, viewing nesting bald eagles, beaver activity, and moose or bear. Enjoy a nature walk to an authentic trapper's cabin, where a naturalist shares local folklore as well as flora and fauna details. Combining this with a panoramic view of Denali (Mt. McKinley) in the Alaska range, will all make for an unforgettable adventure of epic nature! $75.00 pp
This evening, continue your Alaskan tour on to Denali National Park and a restful evening at a Lakeside Inn. A dinner stop will be offered at the finest restaurant in the arctic. (B)
DAY FOUR - DENALI:
Everything about Denali National Park is big: the scenery, the mountains, the incredible beauty, and the animals. Early this morning, meet the van in front of your hotel. Transportation will be provided to the Visitors Center where you will embark on a Denali Park Wildlife Tour, an excellent way to spot the wildlife for which Alaska is so famous: moose, bear, wolves, caribou, dall sheep. With over 365 million acres of wilderness in Alaska, Denali National Park boosts an adventure around every corner. This tour affords the best chance to see an abundance of wildlife in their natural habitat. It's a fascinating 6 hour shuttle tour into the park that you won’t want to miss. Snack and beverage will be supplied. So bring your camera and binoculars, you won’t want to share. This Alaskan wildlife tour ends around 2 PM. Finally upon everyone’s return to Anchorage, a dinner stop will be provided. Your Alaskan tour ends with transfer to the airport. (B, L)
